A 12-year-old lady from California has gained the Scripps Nationwide Spelling Bee after a tense last in Washington.

Ananya Vinay from Fresno appropriately spelled the phrase marocain – a sort of costume cloth – to defeat Rohan Rajeev, 14, from Oklahoma.
